This site was born at this address back in 2002, when I discovered that I could have a homepage on the internet hosted at my own domain — and not at Geocities, and later at other free but more advanced webspace providers. Since then, it has matured, having several incarnations along the years, both in terms of the tools I’ve used to build it and its purpose.
This site was born using tools such as Nucleus CMS and pMachine, now respectively not actively maintained and defunct, until I started using WordPress and — except for some experiments with static site generators, especially Hugo and a tiny hiatus between 2019 and 2020 with no publications —, never looked back.
This site started as a homepage, because that was the name everyone used back in the time, meaning it had no fixed content and that here I talked about my interests and hobbies. Then, as blogging became more popular everyday, it became my blog — first with very personal posts, recalling daily events and stuff, later mixing in some tutorials and more serious reflections, acting as a place I could come back to in order to find a documented reference to my future self, but also aiming to help others.
Then in 2019 I created a static copy of this site with all its content since 2002, downloaded a ZIP file with everything (and what a BIG file that was) and archived it so maybe I could revisit some old stuff someday. Then I rebooted the site, because I felt a personal blog was not what I wanted anymore. I wanted to write more useful, timeless stuff. So I used the blog tool, writing some tutorials, how-to‘s and stuff. Until 2021.
By 2021, I was getting in touch with many new concepts. PKM, for one, lifelong learning for another. As the owner of some versions of personal wikis along the years, I found out that I had been practicing PKM for so long except without naming it as such. Then I got acquainted with the practice of notetaking and tools like Logseq and Obsidian. Then I learned about digital gardens and how they were an open door to the first web, to the handicrafted websites of the past. That’s when I saw it. It was time for yet another reincarnation of this site. Its current one.
This site is, currently, my personal, public space. Here, my thoughts, reflections, learning and knowledge are stored and shared. I’ve turned blogging into journaling, I’ve turned my previous desire to write tutorials and other knowledge I feel like sharing into notes. I’ve turned some of my writing, occasional fiction and tales I write, into essays. So that’s what you’ll find here at the moment. WordPress still powers this site, but I want this space to be ever changing, always in motion. So much so that I’ve created a feed of site changes, to document it along the way.
And you’re so very welcome to explore it all you want.
